Bo is a senior boxer with a lot of spunk. He loves to play catch and fetch toys. He was found as a stray but you could tell he was probably an indoor dog that was very well taken care of. We searched everywhere for his home and even ran ads in the paper and noone has claimed him. He loves children and does not seem to mind other dogs or cats. I know this is a crazy time of year but we have a small plea for Monday (see her story below and her pictures attached). She is undergoing surgery at Dr. Hollis (at Providence Animal Hospital) as we speak. Any donation amount and/ or prayers would be greatly appreciated.

This sweet dog was found wandering the streets. She was extremely under weight and was not meant to be a street dog. She was looking for a forever home. Fortunately, her new foster mom was able to take her in and give her the TLC she so needed. Her foster mom can not sing enough wonderful praises for this beautiful girl. UPDATE. Monday is having emergency surgery to remove a large mass. Any donation towards her $1,600 vet bills would be greatly appreciated.

Pumpkin was saved from a local high kill shelter. She is approximately 4 years old. She is great with all size dogs and cats. She is house trained and will be spayed Oct 31st. These 7 babies were rescued before their owner surrendered them to animal control with their momma. They have been dewormed and will have their first vaccinations and fixed before adoption. Momma was feline leukemia and aids negative. These precious babies will be available for adoption after they are spayed and neutered which will be around 12 weeks of age. They are currently 4 weeks old as of the week of October 1st. This sweetheart came to us after being found alone in this little girl's backyard. The little girl knew she could not keep her but wanted to put her in a good place until her forever home could be found. They called us and with tearful eyes the little girl let me have Snickerz and I promised we would take good care of her. This was August 20th and Snickerz was about 4 weeks old. Snickerz has started eating kitten chow and is a healthy bundle of kitten energy, so it is now time to start looking for her forever home. Austin was pulled from a local high kill shelter on Aug 16th. He is a loverboy that would loved to lounge in your lap when playtime is over. He is approx. 8 weeks old (as of 08/16/11). We are in the process of getting him up to date on shots and deworming. He will be neutered Aug 23rd and then will be ready for his forever home. This pretty girl was part of a litter of 10 puppies that were born into our group when we pulled the mommy from a high killl shelter. She was adopted as a puppy due to the cute puppy factor. I don't think the past owners were really ready for the responsibilty of a dog so when she turned into the gangly teenager, they brought her back to us. She will be 1 years old the first of June. She is a good nature girl that is looking for her forever home of love, happiness and play time. She still has her puppy energy but is working hard on her doggy manners. Would you like to help save a life but can't adopt or foster right now? We are always in need of sponsors. We spend an average of $92.00 per animal in the first month they are in our care for spay or neuter, rabies shot, dewormer, DHLPP booster, Heartworm test, Bordatella ,Frontline and Interceptor. Frontline and Interceptor are a given monthly so we will continue these cost as long as the animal is in our care. These medical costs are just the average cost per animal if it is healthy. We have also had to endure the medical cost of a leg amputation due to an uncaring owner, several cases of demodectic mange and Parvo.

If you would like to sponsor an animal in our care, just hit the paypal button or send a check to our P.O. Box and make a donation and let us know if you would like it to go to a certain foster. If you make a donation of $50.00 or more and send us your address and contact info, we will send you a Hope's Haven shirt.

Chester's Dad has been called to active duty

Chester is a lovely male cat sporting a gray and white tuxedo. Sadly, his owner has gone active duty in the USAF and Chester could not go with him. He has always been an indoor cat and has never offered to scratch any furnishings. Very comical in his actions and affections. He is currently living with another indoor cat and six dogs. Gets along very well with all of them and loves attention from his people. No special diet other than canned food to keep his boyish figure. Speckles is approx. 3 years old and was also pulled from Animal Control at the last minute. She is a wonderful dog with a great disposition. She gets along very well with other dogs but seems curious around cats. She is crate trained and does not bark or put up a fight to go in her crate at night for bedtime. She will be spayed on Tues, Feb. 8th and will be available for adoption after that. Speckles adoption fee is $75.00 and this includes all of her vaccinations that she has already had and her spay. Thank you for assisting us in finding the new members of our family. We took them by the vet on the way home for their first check-up and to get them started on Heartgard and Frontline and I also scheduled their parvo booster. They are all set and I promise they'll receive the best of care!

Minor Set back. We NEED your help!

Hope's Haven has had a minor set back November 19th. Due to the Board of Zoning Appeals members (http://www.wilsoncountyplanning.com/office.htm) and some disgruntled property owners near Micah's property, she will no longer be able to be a foster mom for Hope's Haven. Her adjacent neighbors were great and we appreciate their support during our case hearing. This decision will have a huge impact on the community since Micah played a large role in fostering the larger breeds for Hope's Haven. Because of some people's uneducated views or misplaced grudges, animals in need will be euthanized. We will continue to move forward but are in a urgent need to place the animals in Micah's care. If you would like to open your home and foster these beautiful animals, please call Micah at 260-4379 or Kathy at 430-0616.

I thought I would let you know that McGruff is doing great, which is good, because there is no way Landon would give him up!! Landon has decided he wants to keep his name as McGruff. McGruff acts like he has lived with us all along. I bought a belly band on Saturday, but took it back on Sunday. He actually goes straight to the back door when he wants out. Saturday night he slept in Landon's room in his kennel, but last night he sleep in the bed with Landon. Parri has got used to him too. We are so happy to have McGruff as a part of our family!

another Happy Ending

Peggy and I would like to introduce the newest member of the Day family, Boots Miles Day. “Booty” as we call him, is a medium hair chocolate Chihuahua that came to us several weeks ago as a foster. Back at the beginning of November, he was adopted out to a young couple that already had two Chihuahuas and we tearfully watched him drive away to his new home. A few days ago, Peggy got a call from Booty’s new Mom, saying while he was fitting in great with his parents, his two sister Chihuahuas were constantly fighting with him and he was not happy. She asked if we could possibly try to find him another family.

Peggy and I looked at each other and both knew where that new home was going to be. Last night I came home from work and was greeted by Lacey, our Maltese and right behind her came Mr. Boots, jumping up and licking me like he knew he was finally in his forever home. I walked in the house and had a” Congratulations on your new baby boy card” from my wife and “dogter” Lacey.

Needless to say, last night was a good night and our house is a little fuller and even happier now

In Loving Memory of Leo

Our little rescued pit pup, Leo, died Nov 5, 2010 from the dreaded Parvo virus. For those who may not know the story, Kim's friend David had found this teenie little pup behind an AC unit at the apt complex he works for one freezing morning- Oct 4th to be exact. It was unusually cold that night. How smart was it of that little pup to find that warm place to be!

I wish all of you could have known Leo. He was so much fun! Everyone who met him loved him. Johnny adored and doted on him. I was TOTALLY in love with him. Shot straight in the heart by Cupid's Arrow the second I laid eyes on him. He was the cutest, smartest, happiest, most personable little puppy. No bigger than a termite when found, maybe 4 weeks old, and not a fear in the world. How amazing what an impact such a tiny pup can have on a person, or in his case, persons.

Just before he got sick, Leo had spent Sat and Sun afternoon with me here at my house. He was so good. Even my husband had to admit "That is a cute puppy". He was the first rescue Rick had let me bring to our home in about five years. I had been wearing him out, telling him he had to see this puppy, until finally, for some reason, he said I could bring Leo over. I'm so glad I got to spend that special time with him. The next day, Monday, Leo was having a blast playing with 'Petey' (pit) at Kim's. Sue got several hilarious videos of them playing. There were no indications what-so-ever of what was to come. But Tuesday morning Leo just wasn't himself. I called Micah and she said I should take him to the vet right away. He tested positive very quickly. Total shock.

Leo spent the next few days at VetMed. Dr. Gables sent him home with me on Friday afternoon, saying there was nothing more they could do, and that if I wanted, I could take him home and try to keep him hydrated. He died here at my home about midnight, with Kim, Debbie, and me curled around him in front of the fireplace. Kim was keeping the sub-Q fluids going. I guess little Leo just couldn't take it in, he just ran out of fight. He was so tiny and frail by then. We loved him so. Our hearts were broken.

He's buried right out my front door, just the other side of the walk. I can look out there anytime and think of him. No matter how much I cry, it just doesn't seem to be enough. There is a big,empty, aching hole in my chest where my heart used to be. Right now it feels like it will never go away. I blame myself. I wonder why. I want the world to know how special he was. I want for answers, an explanation, to make some sense of it. But in the end, it won't change a thing. All I can do for him now is miss him and remember him, and I always will.

Mc Gruff is approx. 1 year old and already neutered and current on all vaccinations. Loves to play with other dogs of all sizes and great with children. He would love to find a home where he can live out his life with no worries of ever being a stray again. Mc Gruff was picked up by our local animal control and if he was not pulled in 3 days he would have been euthanized. He does not want to have that scare again. Boots is a 9 month old long haired chocolate colored chihuahua. He is a very sweet boy once he warms up to you. He loves other dogs and kitty cats too. He sleeps in the bed with his foster parents every night and crates during the day if they are not at home. He is very social and takes well to strangers. Andre was pulled from a high kill shelter in East Tenn. He is approx. a year old and current on all vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. For those of you who knew Dee's dog Patches, Patches left us today and is waiting for us at the rainbow bridge. Her death was not totally unexpected because of her recent illness but we are never prepared for the loss of a loved one. When we pick up that cute little puppy or rescued dog and take them home it never enters our mind that we will outlive them. All we care about is giving back to them the love and light that they bring into our lives.

This morning however, Patches let us know that it was time to leave for now. It was even harder without Dee being able to be here. She was, however here in spirit, energy and love. The staff at VetMed was so gentle with her. We all surrounded her with love and I held her in my arms until she passed into the arms of God.

I will never hear a squeaky toy without thinking of her because she always took them out of every toy. She never really liked small dogs coming into our home yet she allowed little Duncan in and even allowed him velcro himself to her mom....she was a bit of a bully taking a toy away from one of her siblings and playing keep away until finally giving it up....and of course had to be on the bed if there was a thunderstorm which she knew was coming before the weatherman. Patches spent so much time around huskies she even began to "sing" like one.

There are no more storms for our beloved Patches. She is remembered with humor and love.

Godspeed my friend.....We really did love you and were blessed with your being a part of our lives.....Moe, Triumph, Whisper and Duncan

Good afternoon :)
I hope you and Kathy are well. Please forward this email to her if you will as I do not have her email address. As you may or may not know, we adopted Ollie (we call him Oliver now, Ollie for short) hoping that he would make a good playmate and "best buddy" to our 8 month old rescued Japanese Bobtail (we think) - Peanut. Also there was some concern about Ollie perhaps being a female instead of a male. I wanted to provide you and Kathy with an update!

John Baxter's new family

Just wanted to send you a few pictures of the happy boy. He enjoyed the ride home and my kids were soooo excited to meet him. The first picture is of my kids and the neighbors. Mine are the boy in the red shirt and the girl in the back. He made friends with the other dogs right away and explored the house. He had a couple accidents inside but probably because he was a little nervous. He also went potty outside on the leash several times as well. He ate most but not all of his dinner. I used the smallest bowls that I had but think that I am going to have to buy smaller ones tomorrow :) He knows what he likes. He was a little more apprehensive about my husband but warmed up to him. He would rather be on the floor than the couch right now but that may change. I am also sending you a picture of the house so you know what kind of home and yard he went to. The kids are in the bed and he did not settle in with them which made them a little dissapointed but we will let him sleep wherever he is comfortable. I think he knows that he is going to get a lot of attention and love.

I can't believe it's been almost a year since he joined our "pack". He is so full of personality and so smart. We're only starting the 3rd week of school and he's figured out the bus schedules for the boys already! He will wait at the front door begging to go out and meet the bus.
We can't imagine life without him now.

We are so happy with our Bandit. He has completed our family. Lily loves him because he occupies Drifter so she doesn't have to play and can assume her proper spot on the couch. Drifter just cannot get enough of him and even sleeps in Bandit's room part of the time.
He goes to the vet on Tuesday with the "big kids" trying to get everyone on same schedule :).
